Frequently Asked Questions

What time of day is it best to have our portrait session?

Since I use mainly natural light the best times are in the morning or a couple of hours before sunsetthe light is stunning at that time. As a rule of thumb, the morning is typically a good time for younger children.

What if it is too cold outside?

I can come to you! I will create an intimate space to photograph within your home. I will bring all the necessary lighting equipment to complement any natural light already available.

What if we need to reschedule because one of the kids are sick or it is really bad weather outside?

When we first schedule our portrait session we will schedule a rain date as well in the off-chance that there is an issue.

What are the best parks in the city for a portrait session?

New York City's backyard boasts an abundance of parks; I believe they serve as the greatest natural backdrops. I have experience in shooting in many of the city's parks and I have discovered intimate spots that have resulted in really beautiful images. My favorite Parks are Brooklyn Bridge Park, Prospect Park and Central Park.

How long does a portrait session typically run ?

You will notice that none of my sessions are restricted by time that is because working with children can be unpredictable and sometimes we need to take a break in order to capture the right mood, so depending on the session you choose and the mood of the day :-) it can run between 45 minutes to 1h 1/2.  I am also very familiar with the attention span of little ones so I try to work as efficiently as possible.

How long before I can see the pictures?

You will be able to view pictures from your session within two weeks. If time is of the essence, please let me know in advance and I will do my best to work with you. Once you have had the chance to view the pictures, we can schedule an appointment over the phone to review your choices. I'm also happy to make suggestions if you're having trouble narrowing down your favorites to order.

How do I order prints?

Prints are ordered through me; I work with a professional printing lab, Pro DPI. I have printed with them for so many years because I trust their quality standards. Prints come back clear with true colors; a professional print lab makes a substantial difference.

Do you offer framing?

Framing one or more of your choices is a fantastic way to make sure that your cherished portraits make it onto your walls. I offer a modern alternative framing option. The print is mounted on a thick foam board (3/4") and has keyholes in the back for easy hanging. You can learn more about this framing option on the display page.

How many pictures will you take? And how many pictures will I be able to choose from?

The number of photographs taken per session varies depending on the subject, the conditions, and the scope of the session. However, with each session my goal is to deliver to you a solid array of great photos to choose from. With this in mind, I take many shots and then I select the best of the best from the session and make any additional edits if necessary. This way you will have an abundance of only beautiful choices to pick from.

Do you share digital high resolution files?

I do not share all of the high resolution files from a session as any resulting prints reflect directly on my services.  A large part of the service I offer is my careful editing and retouching of the very best images from your session before I send them off to a professional printing lab. As an option you may purchase additional high resolution digital files that as some clients choose to use for their holiday cards and similar print projects. Each session comes with all the edited images in low resolutions ideal of online sharing.

Do you back up the pictures?

I have all pictures backed up to an external hard drive and keep most sessions archived for ten years.

What should we wear?

Wear what makes you feel good! And comfortable! Of course, I am available to talk about clothing options prior to our session. You also have the option to do a change of clothes during our session.

How do I book a session?

On my Contact page you will find my contact form. After I hear from you via the form, I will send you my complete pricing information and respond to any particular questions you may have. I am always available to chat over the phone to brainstorm about your session (I love to do this!) or answer any questions. This way we can develop an understanding of what you want most from your session. If you know the dates you are available and the location you would like to photograph then I will send you an agreement with an invoice to pay for the deposit. Once the deposit is all paid we will be all set to go!

How do I pay?

The full balance is due on the day of the session. Payments can be made in cash or check. For all print orders, payment must be made when your order is placed.

Do you travel?

Yes, I travel all over the Tri-State area, including all five boroughs, New Jersey, and Connecticut. I charge a travel fee, outside the Tri-State area.
